pqi i-stick pro 170 flash drive, sporadic I/O failures

Hello, my i-stick works great on my XP machine at work and on an Apple i-book. But on my home XP machine it fails more often than not and when it works it takes forever for my machine to be able to read from it and locks up Explorer (the second i pull the stick out everything comes back to life). It installs fine and is recognized immediately when plugged in but when my computer tries to access it
I usually get this error: "f:/ is not accessible The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

I have tried uninstalling it, in safe mode as well. Tried all USB ports.

I have a Biostar K8NHA Grand, Athlon 64 3400+. SATA drives.

thanks for any help.
