I receive a 1805 error when I attempt to create an image (about 75% of the way through when it's writing the image). I'm using Windows XP, NTFS of course, and I'm trying to write an image of the boot partition to a second partition which I set up specifically for PQDI images.

I managed to create an image of a fresh, basic install with PQDI, but it won't let me see it in ImageExplorer. I get this message:

---------------------------
Image Access Creation Error
---------------------------
Error 1810: Image file could not be accessed.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

What am I doing wrong?

Please help!

Doh!

Not true. Drive Image can write to NTFS just fine. As Sid59 suggested, run scandisk. Always run scandisk before making an image to make sure the disk contains no errors. Drive Image will make an image even if the disk contains any errors but will not restore it or have problems recognizing the image.

PQDI writes fine to NTFS partitions

in my experiences though, writing the image file to the same disk (even if it is a different partiton) leads to a corupted image file.

try a second HDD and all should be swell :)

i have been imaging my boot partition to another HDD (all NTFS) every 2 weeks for the last 8mths

Daveqb has it right. You should image to another drive - either internal or external. Since an image is used primarily to recover from a drive failure, it makes little sense to place it on the same drive. You can also burn it to a CD. Once the image is made, then you can, if you like, just copy it to your first drive.

yeah and if you copy it to CD Drive Images makes the CD bootable so its and easy operation to re-image ya drive if you need to.
