pproxy clues needed

I have a pproxy on a W98 machine that connects to the net by dial up. The pproxy buffers 2000 blocks and it currently feeds four nodes. This should enable it to feed them for approx 24 hours without refilling. Whilst the connection to the net is constant, there is no problem, it behaves like a model system.

The problem is that when the pproxy is not connected to the net, it starts to refuse connections from the nodes, so they fall back to randoms. This occurs even though the pproxy has plenty of blocks left to pass out.

Connect the pproxy to the net and a huge "flush" comes from the nodes and it all starts moving again.

Ideas are needed. Thanks.

Are you using the IP of the proxy for the keyserver connections for the clients in your nodes? Or using a DNS name?

Dantoo,

My guess would be that you have your proxy set to normal mode. In this condition it will constantly try to keep your buffers filled and while the proxy is trying to make an uplink connection to the keyserver it will refuse access to the clients.

Check your ini file for this section :-

connectivity=normal

Change it over to

connectivity=lurkonly

If your modem is on the same machine as the pproxy this should force an automatic flush when you connect to the web and also stop the proxy from attempting a connection when you're off line and blocking your clients.

jinsonxu I am using ip's and not a DNS. Interesting thought though, thanks. By the way, we must arrange for our TA fly in/Drive in as your about my nearest team neighbour! 🙂

Dougal I think you've nailed it. That was the setting and now I've changed it to lurkonly. I'll confirm the result in about 24 hours. 🙂

Thanks for the help everybody, even to the Guys who just dropped into the thread for a look. 😀
