Pproxy and Router?

Ok it seems that the cable company has finally remembered I have a second IP address and they are going to start charging me for it. Hey I knew it would happen sooner or later. Luckily they are not going to backbill me.
Question is: If I get a router, how will all my PCs, within and outside connect to the Proxy? Since the router will get the IP address, and the PC will get its own. How would I go about setting all the clients to connect to mine?

Thanks in Advance,

Daz

Internally, it's just like a switch. Put in the pproxy PC's local IP#. To get access from the internet, you'll need to forward the port (2064 right?) to the pproxy PC. Then you access by the public IP.

Great that seems simple enough. I'll just have to see what happens when I get one. I don't know much about ports though, I just set the IP address on the clients, so I guess the port is set by default. 2064 does seem familiar, looking at PProxy now but no connections have been made to tell.

Thanks,

Daz

A number of the broadband routers routers can function as a DHCP server, and can assign IP addresses to PCs on your network. All you do is set them to get an IP address automatically instead of assigning a static IP address.

I use a Linksys broadband modem/router/4 port 10/100 switch. Netgear and DLink also make inexpensive broadband routers. If you already have a hub, you can get a router with just 1 LAN port you connect to the hub. 🙂

Here is a simple explanation, with diagrams: Broad Band Routers

However if you're looking for maximum speed, I believe the routers with the built in switches are fastest. Also check out the SMC 4 port Barricade router...it's supposed to be good and cheap.

Can't argue with that. 🙂 That's why I have one myself. 😀
