Building a quad PPro system sounds like fun. :)

However...

Does anybody still sell Quad PPro boards?
Does Windows 2K Pro support four CPU's, or just two?
Do they all require ECC RAM? SIMMS, or DIMMS?

A quad 512K 200 MHz PPro system would be cool, if for no other reason that to play around with SMP capable OS's.

yes quad ppro board are available. For support however you must run win2k advanced server.
I am not sure about thr ram required.

I think you just need the Server version, not the Advanced Server.

Pro = 2 CPU
Server = 4 CPU
Adv. Server = 8
Datacenter Server = 32

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Trust me bro, QUAD PPROs get maxed out in Win2k server when they are idle. Atleast 90% cpu usage on all 4, your better off with some form of nix disturbition or just UNix based itself. I was going to build a quad ppro box(for my MP farm) in march until some engineer pointed out How badly they run in 2k server. So canned that idea and just thought to run some form other operating system for it. :(

I see Duron 750's on pricewatch for $28 also, too bad they don't have quad socket-a boards. That might be fun.

Agreed for a home user but they still have life in the corporate world the way the economy is, budget cuts, etc. If I have a need for a server to do something like run Exchange in a remote office with < 200 users or a smallish database application, I can redeploy my old PPro servers to the task. Why buy new when these old beasts are more than up to the task. We had an Exchange server at one office running about 800 users on a dual PPro until recently and it rarely got above 20 - 30 % utilization. Servers aren't cheap when you factor in all the redundancy needed by most businesses - dual powersupplies, RAID, etc.

ReMeDy{WcS} - If you wait a little longer RGN will come in the thread again and tell us all how "qualified" he is and how we shouldn't disagree with him.
