I know this is probably a stupid question, but how do you know if you connect using PPPoE?

What exactly is RoadRunner TAS Authentication? I will installing a Netgear RT314 router and it says it supports it. By the way I am in Columbus, OH using RoadRunner (shouldn't make a difference).
 
I am using RoadRunner; my service is a Cable service.

My RoadRunner uses the MAC of the NIC for authentication; PPPOE is a DSL thing.
