PPPoE connection software

My ISP didn't send me any software to connect to the net.. which I didn't need anyway cuz I have a linksys router.. but I'm troubleshooting a problem and I wanna connect my dsl modem directly to my ethernet card.. will there be any problems if I try this? What I mean is, will it be as easy as just unplugging it from the router then to the computer, and vice versa... or will i have a hard time configuring software?

What software out there will allow me to login to my ISP? Is Raspppoe one?

WinXP has internal support for PPPoE (New Connection -> to the internet -> set up manually -> connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and a password). Raspppoe works, too, but shouldn't be necessary.
