Hello, I have acquired a heatsink that was initially used on a ppga socket type chip, will I be able to use it as a heatsink on a socket-a duron?

Thanks,

Brett

What heatsink? A few like the alphas work with minor modification, but you run the risk of damaging your processor, especially if its a golden orb. Do not use a golden orb by any means. It might be wise to just pick up a new hs/f to be on the safe side.

I used the chrome orb that came with my T-Bird 850 MHZ on my P3-800. I have an Alpha for my T-Bird, and the chrome orb is better than the POS that I had on my P3. It was a direct fit. You are "going the other way" however, so be careful. Test-fit it on the socket without the CPU installed to see if it lines up, so you don't end up cracking the CPU.

The crome orb sucks.. I paid for that extra and the base that sits on the cpu is warped.. easy to crush a core that way.. especially when the middle is the lowest point.. its crappy anyways. I have a better one now
