PPD on a 8500 GT?

So, I have a spare 8500 GT sitting somewhere, and I am wondering if it is worth it to put it in my second computer for having a second folding card?

Also, how hard/easy would it be to set it up? I am hoping to get at least a couple thousand more PPD if possible.

lol, this one is passively cooled :/

anyways, I went to the FAH website where they explain multiple GPUs, and I did the shortcut thing and stuff, but when launching the other shortcut (for the 8500 GT) it wouldn't load, said drivers were out of date or unsupported card. I suppose I should try and hook it up to an actual monitor like it suggests. Running the win 7 RC on that comp.

Do the 8500 and the 8800 have the same number of shaders?

I seem to remember something about cards with different number of shaders - the faster one will only run as fast as the slower one? Or not at all?
Not sure if that was only ATI or nVidia also.

Maybe someone else can confirm this?

I think your on the right path but If I remember correctly, The dual card setup must be the same cards or very simular. ie; same # of cores. An example would be to have an 8800 and a GTX 260 = not a good setup. If the 8500 and the 8800 have the same # of cores, then you just might be good to go.

really...no, the 8500 only has 16 lol...the FAH multi GPU setup said nothing about that. Will try on vista, and with hooking up to an actual monitor.

You could try Vista but you will have that same results. I have tried a GTX 260 and a 8800 GTS and it's a no go. They just wont work together. Also, If you were to have a 2 card setup and both are compatable, remember you have to have a dummy plug on your second card to make it think you have a second monitor. This is of course that you don't have a second monitor. If so, then disreguard that last statement.🙂

Is this just for Vista?

I thought you didn't need a second monitor/dummie plug with WinXP?

Once I am on the topic, does Win7 behave like Vista as far as this is concerned?

Well I have a dummy plug for all my rigs and have Xp and Vista so, as far as I know you need them for all OS. As for Win7, I don't know how it works just yet. Right now, no need to get the Os as of yet.🙂

doesn't matter really now anyways, the 8500 GT is kinda bad, the heatsink on it came lose and temps went up to 255 C via GPUz and precision. So I restarted and took it out.
