PPD/$ for GTX 4 series

OK, so my 2 GTX 470's overclocked to 700 are getting 13500 ppd that I paid $240 each.

I just got a new GTX460 factory OC @ 750 @ 9500 PPD

I can get 2 GTX 470's for $250 AR only for a couple more hours.

I figure 54-57 ppd/$ for the 470's, and 50 ppd/$ for the 460's

Sound right ? Should I get the 470's. or more 460's ?

I would go with 460s for the lower heat/power, and they seem to easily clock to 800+. I've been tempted to replace my 260s but I'm holding out possibly for a dual CPU rig instead.

well, I tried 900 ,but it didn't go. But 840 did. And at 42 c ?????
So I ordered one more.

What OS and what driver version are you running ? Mt 470's @ 700 only get 13500 ppd.

Xp 32, and 256.96 drivers.

Hard to believe that another OS would change the numbers so much,,,,

Its hard to tell now-a-days because projects you get are so diffrent. But if you go by just Fahmon I get 11k ppd avg on my GTX 460 @ 850core on win7 64bit. I think most people post PPD when they just look at it real quick. However, the project does go down to only 5-6k ppd on certain projects.

Out of morbid curiosity, has anyone done any gaming with their 460s? Thinking about getting this for my wife's next build, but I have to be sure it can play Guild Wars 2.

Yah i game on mine a lot. Play BC2/sc2/etc at 1900x1200 on max settings both games perfectly.

I'm using the 258.96 drivers with Windows 7 64 bit.

Lately I've been getting quite a few of the 12k ppd units (I can't remember which ones they are as I'm currently crunching some 9k units). Anyways, for the $/ppd ratio, I really like the 460's and they don't go over 60 C with the fans at 55%.

OK, so I got the 460. Its 10500 ppd, but its 41c at full load, and 70% fan ! And the one I got is dead quiet at that speed ! And I think the heat output is way less also (the 470 runs 85c)

I think its worth it to loose that, as I need 3 cards for the ppd. so I would need 5 460's for the same ppd at 4 470's.

I think I will stay with 460's for now, as the cost is also better / ppd

It's a speed comparison of different GPUs running OpenCL in Linux. It's still GPGPU so is somewhat relevent to DC. They show the GTX 460 is over twice as fast than an HD5770, or 7.4x as fast as an 8800GT!

What brand of GTX460 do you have Mark? Quiet, cool gear always appeals and that is one fast card for the price. Good luck with your OCing

I too ordered one of the MSI Frozr II GTX460s. Then I saw the above deal, and had to order that as well. Either my quad-GPU rig is getting an upgrade, or I'm going to build another quad, with two PCI x16 slots, to run CUDA on. Don't have any SLI boards, but I have a couple of X48 boards.

Does anyone know if you can mix 9600GSOs and GTX460s in the same rig for CUDA/F@H, or is that a really bad idea to mix GPUs.?

And does anyone know what level of PSU you might need for twin GTX460s? Overclocked? Can I get away with an Antec EA650, or should I spring for something with the requisite number of PCI-E power connectors already wired up, rather than using splitters?

(I should have sprung for that $55 BFG 1000W refurb from geeks.com a while back, but I thought I didn't need it.)
