PPD for a GTS450? Power consumption?

Anyone know?

Would two GTX460 1GB cards be better than four GTS450 cards? The GTX460 cards have 336 SPs, the GTS450 have 192 SPs. So 2x336 = 672, and 4x192 = 768.

What would the power-consumption difference be between the 4xGTS450 and 2xGTX460? It would require the same number of PCI-E 6-pin connecters, either 4x1 or 2x2.

How does GTS450 power consumption compare to 9600GSO 96SP power consumption?

I am currently running four 9600GSOs and an AMD 45W dual-core CPU off of an EarthWatts 650W (Delta). Runs fine as far as I can tell.

Space-wise, though, I wouldn't be able to fit four GTS450s, as I don't know of any that are single-slot. So I guess I would end up with three GTS450s. Would 3xGTS450 be faster than 4x9600GSO 96SP in PPD? I get around 4000 PPD per card on GPU2 F@H client.

Edit: Woohoo! Sparkle is making a single-slot GTS450. So I could shove four of them into my F@H quad-GPU rig after all. 🙂

3 x GTS 450 will have no troubles spanking 2 x GTX 460 in PPD. I don't know if it's the design of the client but for some reason, once you get to a GTX 470 and beyond, there's a diminished level of return when it comes to PPD. There seems to a point where cores don't matter as much and more to do with how fast the shaders are running .

The GTS 450 seems to be the current sweet spot in terms of PPD/watt. Not sure how well a 650W PSU will power 3 cards. My guess is you're borderline which might not be so good for the PSU in the long term. I've seen people getting anywhere from 8000-14000 average PPD (per GTS 450 card) depending on WU and how fast the shaders are running. My GTX 460 on a good day at 1700 MHz shaders can squeak a hair over 15000 PPD.

I thought about building a new "budget" folding rig with 3 x GTS 450, Asus Crosshair IV and a 1090T. SMP on 5 CPU cores with one dedicated for the GPUs.

OK, what do GTS450's get in PPD in F@H ? My 460 768 meg, I got for $144 AR, and they do 15,300 pd. I have 4 now, in 2 different boxes. U have a kill-a-watt coming this week, and will reply with some system draws then. They beat my 470's in ppd (see other thread)

Edit: I see your edit. Now I want to price those.

wow, $100 after rebate, and only one power connector ?? And up to 14k ppd ? whats the "usual" . Mine 460's are "locked" at 15,300 no matter the unit.

In retrospect, I probably would have gone with the 450's, however, if you do end up going the 460 route, just get the 768mb (if you won't be gaming). From what I've seen, the 1gb and 768mb versions are the same when it comes to folding, but you will pay quite a bit more for the 1gb and the extra memory won't make a difference.
