1. how do i actually close programs. for example, if im in Notes, or File Explorer, or Tasks, etc... tapping the (X) icon seems to just minimize it (because its still shown as running in the Memory prog).

2. i have an .exe file on Sd card, which i assume is an installer. in file explorer, i browse to the folder, and click on .exe file... it doenst do anything. how do i Run it?

Go into memory program in the control, and you can stop the program in memory. As for exe programs, you go to make sure it was developed for a ppc, and you should install it via activesync.

i was able to see that the programs were running through the mem prog... but id like to fully close apps in the apps themself; is that possible?

i know with 99% certainty the exe and program is made for PPC. also i tried opening it in winxp and it says its not a valid w32 application. i went to Add appications in ActiveSync and there is nothing listed

Why do you want to close things? Unless there is a specific reason (ie crashes or upgrade), you are not supposed to exit anything. That's how WM and PalmOS works. You can get third party launcher/shell tools that will close for you but you are really not using it as they intended.

For some reason the only way to truly close a program is via the memory part.

As far as the .exe file, generally installations run in windows and transfer to the PPC via activesync. What is the program? Are you sure it is not a bad download?

i close programs i dont need to run further to conserve memory.... like in any OS. didnt know that was not 'natural' in WM/POS. i figured it should be an important issue here because memory is more limited.

software is a gps-navigation software. the readme says to copy the files to the SDcard, and pop it in, and installer should run by itself... but seems not to be the case.

im trying to find some freeware/shareware at the moment as well to test out this installation thing....

Some installers run on the PC, others on the PPC. Since yours will not do anything, I would suggest recopying the file.

As for stuff running, I usually dont have problems. I let it build up a while and then go in and close all every so often.

Why the X doesn't close:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/arc...06/10/05/The-Emperor-Has-No-Close.aspx

Task managers that will let you close:
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=48605

i liked SPB Pocket Plus. It let you hold the X if you wanted to close, tap it if you wanted it minimized and tap and drag down to pop open the task menu. I never played around with too many of the others to see if they emulated this behavior but the task manager and battery meter are all I used out of the PP package. Costs about fifteen bucks.

A good rule of thumb is that if a program is a .exe, it needs to be run from your computer with your phone synced. If it's a .cab, it can be run from the phone. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE but is in over 90% of the case. You should also downlaod and keep somewhere ftxpbrowser. It's small and simple but will let you tap and hold a link to do a save target as, something that is missing in PIE.

Also, PalmOS 5 is not a multitasking operating system but PalmOS 6 is. A lot of devices - Treo's especially ship with POS 5 and POS 6 is generally considered dead.
