you can find these much cheaper other places and many here will regard these power supplys as some of the worst you can possibly get

580w means very little, you gonna sue them for fraud? no, nobody is, it doesnt produce anything near 580w in real life im sure

try something from here http://www.directron.com/price30.html

Thanks for the info. Any ideas if this Logisys 500w is any better?

The TTGI TT-520SS, link, still seems to be on sale at directron $33 + shipping. The +12V is enough at 18A or maybe 20A(waiting to find out), but its made by a very good company and is at the same price as the powmax.

actually those and the directron labeled ones are the only ones I wouldnt touch there, *laughing*

the aspire I wouldnt either but some say there decent psus

unless you got some real insane wattage rig (like my 8 hard drive rig) your better off not worrying about wattage and getting a good branded psu. A 350W+ (real watts) will drive most any 'normal' pc fine. Ive got a 2.8ghz 1gb ram and radeon 9500 running off of a 250w zippy without a hitch

the super-flower psus are well regarded as a good value per watt, cheiftec psus are the same as the thermaltake ones except cheaper, and fortrons are allways great psus.....

😀

They had a 450watt for $12 a week back @ the egg, should've got a couple and watch the news for fires.

I've had the 480W version of this PS and have had it running for about 6mths now. No problems at all with a XP Mobile 2400+ @ 2.4GHZ / nVidia 6800 / (2) Maxtor SATA HDD's in RAID 0

Maybe it's a hit or miss with PowMax power supplies but mine is running solid.

It's well known in this technical community that Powmax is a very cheap, low end PSU. Reliability is generally poor. Some people may have good luck with them but it's too easy to get an unreliable one. The opposite is true for Antec which is highly regarded here. Most people have reliable service from their Antec PSUs but some will still fail. It's like this for most PC components.

i have read that the watts listed on these power supplys are the max they could get when the psu was tested under very cold near freezing conditions. since most everyone cant achieve these temps inside their pc case the number listed on the psu is all relative and sticking with a trusted one is better than a generic IMHO.
