PowerVCR II can't see my Pinnacle PCTV Pro

I recently purchased a Pinnacle PCTV Pro TV tuner card, and today, I tried to get PowerVCR II to work with it. But after the installation (everything went very smoothly), and after the XP patch, PowerVCR II Delux could not find my TV Tuner. The TV Tuner itself works perfectly with the Pinnacle PCTV Vision software. Also, when I tried to close the PowerPCR II software, the following message appeared: "S0020: Unable to add vidcap to filter graph." However, my main concern is how come PowerVCR can't see my TV Tuner card?

Please Help. Thanks,

I get the same problem. In addition, PVCR II 3.0 dlx with the newer patch it always says my tv card (pctv pro) is not properly setup. if i try going to the config settings, the options in the "channel" tab is grayed out--choosing cable or antenna as the source.

anyone know of a fix?

lawicd:

I fix my problem by installing a 3rd party software from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ After installing their driver, PowerVCR is working for me now. Although I'm having trouble with audio now (sound would disappear when I start to record). But nonetheless, I got PVCR II to work with PCTV with the new driver.

Note: After you install the new driver, TV Vision from Pinnacle will not work anymore. And please read the installation note carefully (i.e., don't check the FM radio option)

I'm having the same problem also... Does anyone know how to get the audio to work? I've been using Dscaler for tv viewing and that works great. I just want to be able to record shows now..

Thanks

[Correction]
use only the ATI and iuLab, not btwincap
[/Correction]
I got the fix (for windows xp pro at least)

go to ati.com and download the TV Wonder drivers (MMC 7.1)
next, head to http://www.tv-cards.com/drivers.htm
go to Option 3 and hit http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/
on that new site, go to http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/download.html
grab the auto-installer (at least that's what i did. if you grab the normal zip file, you'll have to edit the inf file manually)

off note: that guy at btwincap updates so damn fast, i got an older version of his which is like 1 week old!

ok. now after you have both files, ATI MMC 7.1 and BT generic drivers, extract them to seperate folders. The ATI drivers will create two folders for you; it'll make one folder for their TV Tuner (i'll get into that more later) and the ATI Drivers for the tuner.

With me so far? download two files and extract them to temp folders you'll remember.

now i'm not too sure if this part is required but i believe it was in the readme of the last of the generic driver: install the WDM drivers of our pinnacle card (or you can try the 4.02a driver set, forgot which one i actually used).

uninstall (updating should be okay, i think) any current drivers for the tv card and install the beta WDM and/or 4.02a of pinnacle if you havent already.

next run the exe from the generic bt drivers. when you are promted for the screen, be sure both dropdown boxes are set to autodetect and nothing is checked. let it install the drivers for you. if it asks to reboot, do so.

when you're back in windows go to device manager and update your drivers to use the ATI Audio Capture, ATI Video Capture, ATI Crossbar. reboot if it wants you to.

the other drivers that should be installed are the Avermedia Crossbar and Avermedia TvTuner (yes, two Crossbars and there should be no conflicts).

the end result will be

ATI
  • Audio Capture
    Video Capture
    Crossbar

AverMedia
  • Crossbar
    TvTuner

After 3 days of trying to mix/match drivers this seems to work okay. only problem is when/if you want to use the TV which comes with MMC 7.1, more often than not the tv screen will look scrambled but actual recording is perfect. even when you record the picture gets "fixed."

If anyone finds a better solution or better mix/match than the one provided, please let us know and post your findings here.

Works with:
PowerVCR II 3.0 DLX
ATI TV (normal viewing is messed up; recording is good)
ShowShifter (How do i get it to encode divx 4.12 + mp3 real time? i get no audio but it's divx. if i encode WMV it works good)
PowerDVR 1.8

Doesn't work with:
Crappy Pinnacle TV

Thank you and good night

P.S. if AverMedia wasn't an option w/ the generic BT drivers, try Ivan's site instead. Everything written here was from memory and you dont want to know how many different ways and drivers I tried fooling around with.

hell, w/ his new drivers at btwincap you might only need his and can avoid all the trouble w/ the ati drivers. but w/ that current setup i mentioned above, i get stereo sounds

yes, i do have sound when recording. the only app i have trouble with is PowerVCR II 3.0 DLX -- it creates long highpitched beeps kinda like morse code. i'm using the internal sound to my sb live x-gamer 5.1's aux input.
