Try the 3DRage Tweaker utility which allows you to overclock and adjust best for game playing.

Try 3DRage website.

I'd try reinstalling it. I have a Radeon 8500 OEM, and I had NO problems overclocking the "core" or "memory" with Powerstrip.

Either reinstall it , or download it again.

But, to be honest with you, I stopped using Powerstrip because it locked up my system in some games. There is a "Bios" editor for the 8500 (try a search on Yahoo), which works just as well. I use that, and have my OEM running at Core=270...Mem=260 with no problems and no lockups.

You won't see much of a performance increase by OCing the core, anyway. Stick with the optimal memory frequency (determined by finding out what the highest setting is without seeing artifacts or crashing) and leave it at that. Your performance comes from the memory bandwidth of the card in coordination with the GPU, however as I said, upping the Core clock does little to nothing in regards to performance.

toadstool, how did you use the BIOS editor? I downloaded it, but it wants me to load a .rom or something.

Well, hopefully you have better luck than me. I bought my card at a "clearance" sale online for $149.........I think i now know why the guy who who had it before me returned it. It doesn't overclock worth a darn! Oh well....only paid $149...have to look at the bright side.

Anyways, when you start the bios editor, you have to load up a bios file. I had the files already, becasue I downloaded them along with a "flashing" utility that allows you to flash the bios. If you don't have that utility, you're gonna need it. (try doing a search on the "Rage3d" forums)

When you get a bios file, load it, then change the speed to what you want. Click on "checksum", and then save it as a ".bin" file.

Then you have to go into to DOS and flash your BIOS with the new file.

All this might sound complicated, but it's really not. Once you have all the files you need, it's pretty easy.
