Except for the size, it looks like the s200 and the a40 appear to be very similar (with the a40 having a few more options). Yet the s200is about $50 more than the a40 (usually). Are you just paying more for the smaller size of it?

Can you share your details on this... I'm looking for this camera for my sister for Christmas. I have the S300 and the underwater case and it's great for SCUBA diving!

I did SHARE in another Canon thread yesterday-- can't keep track of them all.. :D

But now I'm wondering if the S230 is better, for $317?

anyway, this was my deal:

staples.com has the S330 for $399.99. First rep wouln't pricematch anybody. Second rep ok 'd it with her supervisor to pricematch AbesofMaine.com but added in ground shipping since staples.com says 3-5 days. making it ~$305. Applied 110% pricematch = $295. Use coupon for $40 off. $255 + tax. (of course I started with the cheaper sellers like buydig, protek and mp superstore, but they wouldn't allow it saying that those guys weren't authorized resellers.)

Est delivery 11/25. I guess Dell is just as good, but I didn't see any current deals at Dell?

My advice, if you get rejected, don't argue and make a stink. just call back and make sure you talk to someone else - ie get their name.

What is the difference between the S230 and the S330? Do you know if the S230 has an underwater case? And I don't mean a case like the one for the S200 that only goes down to 9.8ft! It would need to at least go to 100ft like the S330 case does...

So if I'm correct, the S230 is the size of the S200 (i.e. slightly but noticably smaller than the S300/330), has more Megapixels than both the S200 and the S300/330 AND it has an underwater case that will go down to 100ft!!!! Where do I sign up? I'm assuming the S230 price of $317 with no tax and free shipping is from Dell Home... can someone confirm?

Maybe I should pawn my S300 off on my sis and get this one myself :D

s230 (just got on for $330 shipped) has 3.2 megapixel, underwater case, AND CAN TAKE 3 MINUTE VIDEOS!!! the s330 and the s200 only do 17second videos..

3 minute videos of me and my old lady in the sack should be fun!..

ouch

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I think another difference between the s330 and the s230 is that the s330 has the voice memo feature and, more importantly, a built-in speaker.

One last difference which probably accounts for the size difference in the 200 and 300 lines is the respective 2x and 3x zooms... Another thing I noticed is that there are now TWO underwater cases for the 200 series cameras one that goes to 9.8ft and a new one, the WP-DC600 that will go to the full 100ft.

Based on stingygrrl's experience, I might get the S200 for my sis based on cost and that there is a new case... if all goes as planned, I should get it for $202 shipped.

==========S200==================================

Staples = $299.99
AbesofMaine = $248.99 + $19.90 ground shipping = $268.89
110% off Staples PM = $242
- $40 coupon = $202

And if AbesofMaine becomes too much of a problem PMing, I might just do it to Amazon which is $40 more but has free shipping ($289.99). That would result in $221... still not a bad deal and definitely easier as far as PMing is concerned.

==========S330==================================

Same deal as above using the S330 would result in about $229.90 PMed with AbesofMaine or $248 PMed with Amazon.

==========S230==================================

Unfortunately Staples doesn't carry this yet and besides, AbesofMaine sells it for the full $399.99, same as Amazon's and Dell's retail prices... Looks like the best deal on the S230 is still through Dell although I still haven't seen the details as how to get $317 shipped.

===============================================

If anyone has more to add or better prices... please add you comments...

nope,
your S200 deal won't work bec they can overnight that to you, and overnight shipping from amazon or anyone, is a dealbuster.

to get the S230 from dell for $317 you need a $ off coupon. Since I don't have any, and am not buying any, I'll keep my S330 deal, esp since my Aunt bot it for her kid, and it's not mine anyway..

PS--your math is all wrong; the S330 PM to Abes is $295-40 coupon + tax, and the S200 PM to abe's is $225 + tax IF you get a dummy CSR who adds in ground shipping. Add in overnight, and you're practically paying for a S330.

I believe you mean the microphone. Both models have the built-in microphone.

I am going to call American Express and see if they price match this site: www.allstarcamera.com
If so, I am going to order the S200 from Dell.

Yes.... actually, all 3 current models S200, S330, S230 have the microphone but *only* the S330 has a speaker for playback with sound on the camera. Not sure how important the on-board speaker is unless you are playing back only on the camera which seems unlikely. One word of caution.... if you are considering the S330, even though the specs look like the size difference is very minor, do yourself a favor and look at both camera sizes side by side. All 3 models are great cameras, but the S330 looks and weighs bigger than just comparing the specs would lead you to believe. I am leaning toward the higher resolution 3mp S230 because it is truly pocketable. Also, a 3mp shot taken at 2x zoom with a S230 can be cropped and enlarged to have virtually the same quality as a 2mp shot taken with 3x zoom on the larger S330.

I wish canon would release a 3MP with 3x optical zoom at the size of the S200. That would make my day.
