PowerShot A75 or PowerShot SD110?

I'm trying to figure out which I want to buy for my girlypal for Christmas. She isn't really into photography. All she would use (as far as I know) is the point and shoot function.

A75: Double A batteries are easy to come by. Everybody loves it. Good list of features allow for room for growth.

SD110: LithIon battery so changing batteries is not necessary. Extremely small. Good reviews.

I can get either one for ~$200. The A75 a little less actually. I guess if I really can't decide, then either one would be good. I just want to know what you guys think.

The ELPH is the one her girlfriends will ooh and aah over, though the A75 has more functions.
 
for a girl smaller = better, because from my expirence they think that makes it better, and they are generally too stupid to figure out complex functions

I had an a70 and went to an sd110... I miss the a70's awesome macro mode; but the sd110 is TINY... it's nice to just stick it in my pocket and go.. while the a70 had to have a bulky huge case

hey my sisters graduated top of her class in a top 10 law school, she cant operate a digital camera properly, hence we got her and her husband a digital elph

book smarts =! gaget smarts
 
For someone who is not into photography, A75's features are wasted. Smaller is better.

I had an A75 until it got stolen and rarely if ever used the manual controls. On a camera like that I really didn't see too much point in it, the results were not that much better to warrant the extra hassle. Though I do have a DSLR too so I'm probably spoiled in that respect.
 
Both good cameras, the s-series has a focus on small size and as a result has fewer features (also suffers from redeye, or so I read - but that's easy to edit out), while the a-series is feature-packed for such relatively inexpensive cameras. No offense to the (3) women on ATOT, but I agree with Anubis, form over function seems to be the rule for whackos.. erm, I mean women hehe... For her I'd suggest the sd110. If it were for you, the A75.

As an aside, I have the a75 and like it, but would recommend the a70 over it. a75's only improvements on the a70 are 9 auto-focus points vs. 5, a 1.8" LCD vs 1.5", and the ability to print directly to a Canon printer with the feature - but it's hard to tell whether a pic is print-worthy on a 1.8" LCD screen. Should be able to save a few bucks with the a70.
 
SD110, for sure. It takes great pics, and it will fit nicely into her pocket or purse, so she won't mind taking it places. The A75 doesn't have the stylishness that makes it more desirable out of the box.

I kept my S110 Elph when I bought my G5, because the Elph series cameras are easy to carry, and easy to use. Its almost 4 years old, and it takes fantastic shots, so I would assume that the SD110 has improved on that.
 
I went with the ELPH because I can't stand bulky crap to carry around... I love my S230

I agree with the first part, as an A75 owner. But I wouldn't get the A70 over the A75. I was originally looking for the A70, but then I read about the E18 error, which is when the lens get stuck somehow and makes camera useless. A lot of people had that problem, and some were unfortunate enough to get this problem after the warranty. I think the A75 is immune to this problem, because I couldn?t find anyone who complained about it.

edit - looks like some people did get that problem in the 75, 70, 60 and sd110.
