Powerpoint Question

I never use Powerpoint but created a presentation and I am trying to get one part of a slide to show up before the second part. Basically I want some text to appear and then the following text on that same slide to appear only when I choose. I am sure that I am missing something simple, but I can't find the option to do this. Any help?

select text, right click, click "custom animation" should do the trick, no?
