PowerPC G3 CPUs

What is the comparison between the PowerPC G3 Mac CPUs and Athlon/Intel IBM compatible CPUs as far as MHz goes? What would a 500MHz PowerPC G3 be comparable to? I've heard they're as fast as a 900MHz Athlon but I find this hard to believe. Any good articles on this?

i'll just warn you that this is opening a big can of worms. it is an often debated topic and can get very heated between a pc and mac zealot. there are very few cross platform applications, so the often used "benchmark" is photoshop, where the macs clearly shine. this goes way beyond the intel vs. amd clock for clock battle...
