powernow disabled?

i have an emachines laptop with an mobile athlon xp 2400 in it....until a short while ago, powernow worked and the clock speed throttled back to 533 mhz most of the time it was in use, which was good....good for power, heat, noise.

then the guys at my work got a hold of it, installed some software, and now powernow does not work. it runs at 1800 mhz all the time and its awful using it on my lap since it gets quite hot and noisy.

is there a utility to force powernow or a lower clockspeed in real time or am i screwed?

btw, i'm running winxp home

Go to the power management settings (in the Control Panel) and set the power scheme to Portable and then tweak that to your liking.
