PowerMac G4 issue

I have an old PowerMac G4 400Mhz with 1GB ram running 10.3.9

sometimes, for no reason it just freezes and I have to shut it down. no error messages, just stops responding. explanations?

one of the sticks of ram has different timings than the other 3. could it cause a problem? I ran a memory test (Rember?) and it said everything passed. im using the basic G4 keyboard/mouse and a 19" WS LCD. I also have a USB wireless adapter.

any input would be appreciated. im not a mac guy, this is just a spare for the guest bedroom. dont tell me to get a new one, i am already aware of that option.

Hmmm... it might be possible, but have you tried it without the ram? I'd suggest taking it out and running it for about a week or so to see if you don't have any sort of utility to test it with. Otherwise, you could always do the old windows 2-step (shrug and reboot) or 3-step (fdisk, format, and reload....doodah...doodah). But seriously, I believe that some PPC linux boot disks have a memtest-type utility on them. Oh, and was your OS install a fresh one or an upgrade from a previous version? Some people do have problems after an upgrade. I'm fairly new to the mac world so I'm just now getting familiar with the ins and outs of troubleshooting.

it was a fresh install of 10.3.5 and then the updates took it up to 10.3.9... it was giving me this issue before, thats why I did the 3-step 🙂

ill try a PPC live cd
