powering case fans with old 386 psu?

I took the old power supply out of our scrapped 386 and found that it still works. I don't know what form factor it's designed for but the computer power button is directly connected to the psu unlike on ATX. I'm thinking of using this ps to power casemod fans. I wouldn't have to worry about the psu failing because i'm only going to use it to power extra fans that i add for more cooling. Are there any drawbacks to what i'm doing? Will the psu kill my fans through long periods of use? Thanks.

That should work fine. The 386 should have AT or XT ower connectors. It should have two white plugs that look about the same. I would just tape these up becuase they are not goin to be used. Though the molex connectors should work just fine. I would go so far as to say you can connect your floppy drive, cd and zip drive to that PSU. I have never done this so I am not going to guarantee anything.

good luck

Thanks for the reply. I want to use the extra power supply because I don't want to add more cables and cable splitters into my already cluttered case. The 386 psu would sit outside of my case and power blow-hole fans. :-D
