I'm getting the Pioneer 7600MP and I think it was crutchfield that said it's powerful enough to power a small sub. Is this really true or just a marketing gimmick? How small could I power? 10"?

Thanks.

I'm no car audio expert but I don't think it would be that great. Would it work..probably but it would most likely distort pretty bad with that little of power (50W max coming out of that headunit and the sustained RMS is only 22). I would recommend getting a seperate amp. If that 10" sub is rated at 250 RMS...get a 250RMS amp.

Bridge the rear channels from the built-in amp.
It should be able to power a small sub.

Not a good idea. Unless an amp is specifically designed to allow bridging then you can damage the amp. Car head units are not designed to be bridged.

So no, you're not going to get anything decent out of trying to power a sub with your HU. A 250wrms amp can be found for <$50 shipped.

Oh but it can be bridged. Trust me ;)

I did it with a 10" sub before I had an amp. Manual said it could be done.
