Powering A Power Supply

I would like to know if there is a way to turn on an ATX power supply without using a motherboard. There would have to be an easy way to turn on an ATX PS without having it plugged into the motherboard. Has anyone done this or know how? Please let me know.....

It's possible. All you need to do, is find which of two pins (on the main ATX supply plug) to short with a paper-clip. I can't remember which two off the top of my head. I have a PSU on my work bench like this so I can power up drives and such with no mobo. I suggest you use a PSU with a switch.

If I remember right its the Green one and any Black one, to turn on a power supply.

Just dont have it running for very long most power supplys need some type of load on the 5v or 12v line or you can damage the power suppy.

Itf you don't mind spending a little, Antec makes a power supply tester for under $15 at newegg that will put a load on it and will run safely for several minutes (after which the tester starts to get hot).

I use this on all new supplies I buy before connecting anything else to them.
