I was going to ask, why buy an off-brand when you can get a Startech USB3.0 to SATA6G 2.5" adapter, for $7.99 FS on sale at Newegg every few weeks.

Then I clicked the link, this one has a separate power adapter, and supports 2.5" AND 3.5" drives. Not bad.

The entire reason I bit on the deal was because it was powered. I already own a dock but this may come in handy one day.

I own some dual-drive 3.5" HDD docks, I forget what brand, but they were originally like $50 on TigerDirect, and I got them on sale for $25-30 ea., bought a few of them, for each of my PCs.

I ran into some issues with them, when I tried to dual-load them, seems the +12V PSU wasn't quite strong enough to power both drives, and I lost a few drives (I think, they were as-yet untested ebay purchases), but when I doubled them up in the dock, they started making clicking noises. :(

So, possibly this adapter would be more reliable? Also, I have some drives that I would like to archive and then wipe, from NAS units and whatnot, that I would prefer to simply plug in this device, rather than unscrew them from the NAS tray or shell, if I'm going to wipe them and put them back into the NAS, "fresh".

Those dual-drive 3.5" docks, worked great for single 3.5" HDDs, or dual 2.5" SSDs, BTW. Just not two 3.5" high-powered HDDs.

This adapter seems to have decent reviews. It has a 12v 2A power adapter if that helps.

No idea which might be more reliable. As a home user I've only used my dock a few times and it worked fine.

Code dead? Ah well, I want a few of these anyways, even if I have to pay ~$16 ea. Been wanting to hook up some 3.5" HDDs, without removing them from NAS trays, to put in a dock. These gizmos should do the trick, I think.

Well, got mine pretty quickly, on a Sunday even. Haven't had the opportunity to try them yet. I didn't get them for $6.xx, I paid $16.xx, but I figured that they would be a useful toolbox item.
