Here's what I did: I dl'd and installed the newest drivers for my new Asus GT 7600 card, then purchased and installed WinDVD 8, hoping to optimize DVD playback. In the nVidia control panel I enabled hardware acceleration. DVDs play OK but now other clips, .wmv, .avi won't play at all. All I get is gobbledygook and the phrase "Powered by Splendid Video Enhancement Technology" supered over the screen. What is this?

In add/remove I see that there is something called Asus video enhancement. Is this possible the source of my travails? Can it be gotten rid of?

Any advice appreciated.

Splendid is just a feature of ASUS LCDs as far as I know. I have no idea how it's implemented though. I bet you can get rid of it by uninstalling that.
