PowerDVD XP error

I have encounter a strange error yesterday with my system.
I have Win 2000 Pro installed with PowerDVD XP (bundled with the LiteOn DVD drive I bought). Previously it was working like a charm, until yesterday. For some unknown reason everytime I hit play or try to go into the configuration menu, the system just hangs. If I hit play the system will just hang right there, if I try to go to the configuration screen then the system will try restarting itself (though it never actually restarts, just gave me a black screen).

I have tried reinstalling PowerDVD almost 3 times. None of which worked.
Can anyone suggest any other option I might try, short of reinstalling the OS (cause I would have to do that anyway within a few weeks since I'll be doing some major upgrade on it).

I know that the DVD drive is 100% working since it can read the content of the DVD and any other disc I put in (just short of playing my movies *arrrggggg*). and I know the DVD movie is good since I actually tried several different discs that I know were good, and even a new DVD movie I just bought.

Thanks ... actually I've never thought about that ... however I think I would have to have Media Player 9 and up to do that do I ? ... well I'll just give it a shot ... otherwise well, just gotta wait until I reinstall the Windows and see what's up ... I mean this installation has been running for close to 3 years now ... so I'm not really that surprised with the number of problem I had ... though this one really puzzles me ...
