PowerDVD won't play disc...please help!

I just purchased a retail Aopen DVD Model 1240A from newegg. The kit contained the PowerDVD 2.55 software. I installed this on a system running NT 4.0 with SP4. System recognizes the unit correctly. Software installed with no problems. When I tried to play a DVD I get a screen saying the player is not from the correct region. In looking at the FAQ for the software it says I should have gotten a screen that allowed me to select the region. This never appeared. On the control panel for the software the region button is inactive and displaying a 0.

Any suggestion???????????????????

Uninstall and reistall the software decoder. I was just installing the same version 2.55 with an Aopen 1240 on a PC I'm working on. It installed just fine. At the end of your install, click finish and reboot the system immediately. When the system boots back up, insert a DVD region 1 in first . That is when the window to allow you to put a region in will pop up. Select 1 and you're in business.

Thanks for the update. Will try it first thing tomorrow. I had downloaded the trial version of PowerDVD 3.0 with the same result. I was going to download WinDVD as an alternate plan but hopefully that won't be necessary. Scary part is I found a source on the web that said this version of the Aopen drive determines the region and not the software.

Fingers are crossed, Thanks 🙂
