i got both with the various bits of my new system but which is the better software to use for dvd stuff and why?
input from users is better i think than a list of features [although that is appreciated too:D] so i lok forward to benefittig from your experiences

I have used WinDVD 2000 and PowerDVD XP v4....I find the latter better although I think the version of WinDVD I was using was older so it's difficult to compare.

I think either program in it's latest version form will be good....are there particular features you are looking for?

never had a dvdrpm before so never used either software. therefore in a sense i dont know what features are good or not hence if i can return the question by asking what features are useful that either of the software has?
i have powerdvd as supplied by gfx card/cdrw/dvdrom and wincinema with windvd as supplied by asus with the m/b

windvd, multispeed playback with sound is just sweet. windvd has always slightly led powerdvd in sound/picture. windvd playsback dvds off harddrive with menus etc intact. has all other powerdvds features.

The only advantage for windvd that I can't find a corresponding side to in powerdvd is to be able to have multispeed playback like oroo said. I download my enterprise eps, and most of em I get are slightly off. That's the only video file(s) I have where I actually "Need" windvd. Picture wise I can't tell a differnce.

i still havent loaded either [one reason is to see how this thread pans out and the other is cos i have no dvds yet ;)]
if i load both will i get conflicts, for example both wanting to me the primary software to run dvds etc or can i pick and choose which to run with no problems?

Actually, PowerDVD produces arguably the worst image/sound quality among all software DVD players. Sonic Cineplayer and other Raviscent/Cinemaster based players have been long time favorites, but NVDVD has quite a following too. Recent versions of WinDVD Platinum 4.5 have raised the bar in audio/video quality, and all 3 players now leave PowerDVD in the dust. PowerDVD hasn't been updated for a long time, and its still at v4...the image quality is just abysmal compared to the rest.

You can turn that off. I have both, but watch dvds on the xbox. Powerdvd was my favorite though.
