PowerDVD and volume...

When I play DVDs using PowerDVD I have to crank my speakers 5/6 ths of the way up just to listen at a reasonable volume.. This means I have to mute all other PC noise because it would blast at that volume .. anyone know if there's a way I can crank PowerDVDs volume without having to crank the speakers? And yes, the actual volume of PowerDVD is up all the way.

Try the volume controls in windows, and if you have them, on your sound card drivers.
Also, check the Cyberlink Website, they have vital updates to most versions of PowerDVD.

Yeah, try BoomAM's volume solution. Just double-click the speaker icon in your taskbar to access all volume controls.

Actually don't bother, there's no fix for this, DVDs (you can try any player the same thing happens) are actually dead silent so you WILL have to crank up the volume anyway, no matter what hardware/software you use, that's the main reason why I have the sounds on windows to "none". I've tried those methods and a host of others, it just gets far too tedious, just kill the Windows sounds and it'll all be fine.

nod, that's usually what I do, save my sound scheme, then just turn it to no sound when I wanna watch a movie. Only problem is the sound triggers I have in my MUD client. shrug, oh well, not a HUGE problem.

Actually are you using the AC3/DirectSound3D? If so there's an option somewhere that lets you adjust the listening environment from quiet to Noisy, quiet will lower the volume and Noisy will, you know, make it LOUD!!!

I have a question bout PowerDVD too, is there anyway to adjust the inside volume of PowerDVD without having it affect the outside volume on the windows volume control. So for example, I change the volume inside PowerDVD but the master knob and wave knob on the volume control should remain the same.

No, PowerDVD changes the volume level by adjusting the master solume in windows.

Actually there are a couple of things I can tell you about the sound in PowerDVD. I have had similar experiences, and here is the solution that worked for me.

When I play dolby only DVD's or older DVD's I set the sound under the Configuration Menu - Audio Tab (right click in PowerDVD) to Dobly Sound (the second option). When I play DTS quality DVDs (i.e. Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan or Lord of the Rings...etc) I set the Audio Options in the DVD Menu to DTS and select TruSound (last option) in the Configuration Menu - Audio Tab.

As well under the advanced button on the Audio Tab I always select Noisy Environment for the Dobly Environment selections.
