Powerdown with SMP kernels

Thanks for the link. I'd encountered the same "won't power off" behavior with my Tyan Tiger MPX (S2466N) with Mandrake Linux 8.2, but hadn't bothered to investigate it since it wasn't a big deal. With this information, though, I may be able to get it working with minimal effort...

I have noticed the non-power-down situation with my new SMP rig. I'll have to try some of those tips ... after I get my USB mouse working again. :)

I added the "apm=power-off" option to my lilo.conf file, and my Tyan S2466N-4M now shuts down properly after running "halt" or "shutdown -h now". I didn't need to change the APM kernel options; possibly because I think I already have APM compiled into the kernel.
