PowerColor Radeon R9 295X2 Devil13 requires four 8-pin power connectors
Is this the first ever card to require four 8pin power connectors? The amount of power that can be delivered through them is absolutely insane. Of course this will affect two things, the overclocking capabilities and ? your wallet, when it comes to paying for the power.
PowerColor?s R9 295X2 is triple-slot design, but it also has a backplate, so it?s even thicker. There are three fans, each of the same diameter (100mm?).
Radeon R9 295X2 Devil13 features two Hawaii XT GPUs with a total of 5760 Stream Processors. Each GPU has it?s own 4GB GDDR5 memory and 512-bit interface. At this point we have no information about the clock speeds, but I would be surprised if this card is not factory-overclocked.
Whether you like it or not, you are probably looking at the fastest graphics card on the planet.
Is Inno3d GTX TITAN-Z with custom HerculeZ cooler going to beat it? Let?s wait few more days, as both cards should be released this month.
Ignore my terrible butchering of the quote, I've never seen bttf)
WHAT?! Stop whatever it is you are doing right now, and go watch it. What you just said is a travesty!
Now, back on topic. This card, with all that power available, be would be awesome with a water block. I am sure it will cool fine with the air cooler, PowerColor's air coolers have a good record for working well. But thats a lot of power to dump into a case. A large radiator would really let this thing sing.
That's an outrageous card.
The fans have two sets of blades, one smaller and one larger.
I don't know about the card being cooled by an air cooler, even a HSF as substantial as we see hear. 3x100mm fans is best i've seen, Tri-x is 3x92mm AFAIK. 4x8pin is something given that the 295 is 2x8pin. Though with the 4x8pin, it is only allowed to draw 1x75w from the PCI Express graphics slot instead of a 2x290x getting to suck 2x75w from PCI Express slots. What's more stunning is the 295 on 2x8pin IMO, though we know it's drawing beyond the 150w from each 8pin.
It's funny how AMD always manages to come up with a SNAFU no matter how good of a job they do. The 295X2 is an awesome card, brutal in it's execution. There's always got to be some niggling little thing though that they overlook.
Life on the enthusiast edge comes with its niggles though. Separates the men from the boys!![]()
