Hello everyone,

I recently got a hd 4850 from powercolor and well its not performing well.
I get 10fps - 30fps in source and its not playable.
IN counter-strike 1.6 I get 99.9 fps which I should but when the opponent comes in view it drops to 50 fps and again not playable.

I am using the latest drivers from ati.

Is this normal?

What is wrong?

This wasn't the case with my old 9600 xt it used to do better than this.

Thank you, any input will be appreciated.

How's the performance in other games besides Source based? Did you change anything else in your system, what else do you have in there?

I troubleshooted someone's PC who only had bad fps in online games so had him go into BIOS to turn on 'PNP OS Installed' which let Windows change the IRQ of his network adapter and that cleared everything right up, could be something similar..

Hmmm
I have tried cs 1.6 which is non source based im sure
I did not change much
I got an intel wolfdale 3.0 ghz core 2 duo
corsair ram 4gb

I use a wireless card for internet.
I haven't checked "bioshock" for example, another game that I h ave, its simply wasting energy. these 2 games should be able to tell if the video card is working properly or not.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing. Even when using the CD driver that came with the card its doing the same thing.
Also, without any driver its doing nothing else.
I can try driver sweeper though! :p

And do try the driver sweeper.

If it fails:

You can try clean windows install.

Make sure the power plug is properly plug.

Make sure the PSU is enough to power the 4850.

Can you post all your hardware information?
