Seems like a cool idea?

"The HD 5770 Evolution, as Powercolor decided to brand it, is a Radeon HD 5770 card paired up with Lucid's Hydra chip, which means hassle free GPU combining. We already seen Lucid's Hydra on MSI motherboards but idea that someone might integrate it on a graphics card didn't even cross our mind. According to what we managed to find out so far, this one will be able to work in A-Mode, N-Mode and X-Mode, similar to the combination which you can enjoy with MSI's Hydra equipped motherboard."

Wow thats a cool idea, it never crossed my mind someone would team up a Hydra with a graphics card. Looks like Powercolor is looking for some product differentiation.

I wonder if nVidia will disable it in their drivers? You know how they love their cards being paired with ATI.

The card with the Hydra chip, while more interesting at first, ultimately sounds like the inferior product. If the 5770 + BigFoot NIC is only like $50 more than regular 5770s then it has a chance to be relevant.

While its a novel idea to be able to take a card and plug it into any system for immediate boost in performance, I just don't see the practicality of it when paired with a 5770.

How would that even work? I thought both GPUs had to be downstream from the Hydra chip with nothing in between.

Can lucid do more than 2 cards?

One of my AMD boards has 4 pcie slots and would love to try out a frankencard setup. Have tons of old cards lying around.

I think I remember seeing a review that it "can" but that it scaled negatively more often than not..

Meh, it's not like Lucid was even a superior solution to crossfire, it turned out to be just hype.
It's nice that it's possible to get the bigfoot card without taking up a pci slot, but it still have very limited use. They should just throw Hydra, Killer, Ageia, and XFI all on one card to make a massive collection of uber fail.

actually the X-FI cards have a really good DAC and DSP on them, the only reason they arent received well is cause they were marketed on their "game enhancing" features, which are pretty meh at best. if you get the card recapped and replace the opamps, then EMI shield it, you have a high end audiophile sound solution for less than half the price of most audiophile soundcards.

I have no doubt that putting higher-quality components on the board would help, but the bolded is just so lolworthy.

teh post from head-fi said:
We will now shield the DAC chip, DSP chip, opamps, and the entire backside of the soundcard. There are many options, from Texas Instruments to ERS Paper. This is not snake oil. Shielding really makes a difference. I used ERS Paper, which is electrically conductive so you need an insulation layer between it and the sound card. This mod made the sound noticeably warmer and more analogue-sounding. The digital, hyper-detailed sound is now gone and some will miss it. You will notice it right away and would probably want to turn up the volume since now it is less fatiguing. Who would have thought that shielding makes such a big difference?

Lemme get this straight, reducing the amount of EMI noise which is essentially random noise like you would get in I don't know, an analogue setup, makes the card sound less "detailed" and more "analogue"? This guy is just so full of shit. :D:D:D:D A bit of random noise is the primary contributor to a "warm" sound.

Note: All audiophile "terms" have been quoted to protect the innocent. D:

Do I need the de-oxygenated Monster cables to hear the warmer, less fatiguing sound or will garden variety cables work?

Dude, I can't believe you would put that low-end Monster trash in your signal path! Go 24kt solid gold or go home, n00b.
