powerbook w/airport card unable to connect to wireless router

well, I'm not if i 'm doing something wrong, but here goes.

I'm trying to connect powerbook with wireless airport card installed to my linksys wireless g router (wrt54g)

I cannot seem to get any kind of signal, even from other routers around my neighborhood

are these powerbooks only designed to run with the airport cards and airport access points?

any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I have a powerbook as well and I getting wireless connection with a linksys router. Have you setup the network settings on your powerbook to use airport and setup to be DHCP.
