Powerbook-style screen dimming

Are there any utilities that will dim the screen after a period of inactivity for PC laptops? Not shut off completely, but just dim the screen.

on my sony vaio there is an option to use dimmer settings to save battery power, you might just have to search through your laptop power settings...good luck

I think it depends on what power saving utilities the manufacturer provides. Most laptops I see you have to manually adjust the brightness and a few have different levels depeding on what power mode you are using. Toshiba allows you to customize the brightness level depending on the battery remaining. That said, I have seen a couple Toshiba laptops, I don't remember it they were specific models or what models they were, that the dimmed after some inactivity and got brighter after moving the mouse or using the keyboard. I have never seen settings for that feature before, but then I don't usually pay attention to the software setup on the laptops that I see.
