Powerball with their new added numbers can fuck them selves.

Last time it went up to almost a billion I bought 30 tickets. Didn't even win a buck!

I'm just playing regular lotto using the same old numbers. And I looked at all the numbers that were ever drawn and picked the first three that never came up.

I dislike the new system as well. I'd really love it to be lower pots and higher number of winners. Having winners frequently win 1-2 million would be much better (IMO) and would change the lives of many more people.

I wonder what happens if someone on holiday wins the lottery in a given country, then tries to take the money with them. Taxed by both sides?

Yeah having it go to a billion is cool and all, but in reality if they were to split it up in multiple prizes it would be much better. Have maybe one huge jackpot then a bunch of 1mil prizes or something.

yeah, the jackpot system is pretty terrible, especially with these odds.

We've decided to put in $2-3 per week trashing money in the lottery since ~December. It's the one horribly stupid thing we do with money these days.

But we've stopped with PowerBall or Megamillions, and decided to go with smaller, more local lottos with "not a chance in hell" odds instead of the "not a chance in hell on Jupiter" odds that you get with Powerball and Megamillions.

....we won $2 playing Multimatch! :D (that's a free ticket)

powerball and megamillions do have 1 million dollar prizes on every draw (or $2 million if you are in a state that allows "powerplay" with an extra $ on your ticket). But those odds are equal shit: match 5.

the jackpot is match 5 + the powerball/megball number

The history of these games shows that ticket sales go up as the jackpots get bigger. More prizes that are lower in size don't lure players in.

I'll play a few dollars here and there. That's it.

My uncle was addicted and lost a ton of money to the lottery. Just before his death he came to our house begging for money. We knew what he was going to do with it. He was going to play the lotto. Scratch offs, 3, 4 and 6 numbers and the power ball. He played them all.

scratchoffs are the most egregious lotto tool there is. It's amazing seeing how these gas stations and convenience stores have gravitated to being nothing more than a lotto scratchoff post--bringing in tables next to the lotto machine and pushing all of the general merch back to the corner. Expensive, non-competitive gas...if they are regularly stocked.

It's difficult enough for me to justify tossing $2 per week into the shitter for a random ticket, but it doesn't bother me because I know that's all I'm going to spend. People buying stacks of scratchers at 5 and 10 a piece....insane. Sit there, scratch them all, turn them in, buy some more with the meager winnings.

I like the smaller games with "decent" odds of winning something like $100-500k and cost 1 or 2 dollars.

A few dollars here and there isn't a big issue. It's when the lotto takes over your life. That's a problem. Spending money on the lotto is just like flushing money down the toilet.

The last time I looked I've never seen the wealthy playing the lotto. It's mostly lower and middle class people that play.

Paging Vivi and Rossman.

The MegaMillion is $128 million.

Time to get a ticket or two on both.

Eh, I kinda like them. I'll spend about $30 a year on scratch offs and win back about $15-20. I typically play while waiting for my food from a neighboring restaurant. They do have much better odds than the lottery, with the chance of winning something to be about 1 in 5-7. And it's instant.

Sit there, scratch them all, turn them in, buy some more with the meager winnings.

You have just described the operation of slot machines in principle.

I agree that the odds are better, which is why they are so popular and also far more expensive. I think it's the instant gratification that sucks in addicts that just sit at that spot for hours. Scratch-offs probably end up being far more devastating for such people than far shittier odds with 1 and 2 dollar tickets. Spending $30 a year on that isn't what anyone would consider problematic.

as to slot machines: exactly.

I'd rather play the slot machines. :D For one there's plenty to chose from and various money amounts. I play for no more than 10 times. I don't win anything I move on to the next. I seem to win from the older ones though. That new fangled shit is hard to understand and understand the payouts. And video poker? Forgetaboutit. They have that all figured out. I've gotten three of a kind and the payout was shit.

Lol, people debating odds on the lottery. Like it matters, you'll never win regardless.

That's what the smaller state lotteries offer. It makes more sense to have a larger pot type of lottery for those that want it, and people who want the lower jackpots for better odds still have that option.
