Power-usage by a standard videocard

I'm pretty sure I have a 300W PSU. My Motherboard claims it requires 250W and then there's one HDD, two RAM-chips and a PCI ethernet-card in addition.. and of course, DVD-player and CD-burner. I don't know how much these require, but my question is. How many Watt's does a normal videocard require? I use a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128MB at the moment and it works fine. Will a Radeon 9800 PRO use any more?

I read in an article that the X800 card needs 40-58W. That's bad when my PSU is 300W.

We need the brand of that PSU and if possible your current voltages. Download something like Motherboard manager and tell us what your voltages are at right now.

You SHOULD be fine if it is a decent PSU.

AOpen 300FSP something.

My voltages are:

CPU: 1.64V
AGP: 1.50V
Chipset: 1.60V
+5V: 4,94V
DIMM: 2.49V (I adjusted this down.. cheap memory)
Battery: 3.12V
5V Standby: 5,08V
+12V: 9,98V (This scares me the most... Only program that gives me this info is Aida32 and EVEREST, which is primarily the same. Can't find the +12V any other place.. not even BIOS)

Umm jeez, that 12volt would scare me too. However it might be off because i dont think all your devices would be running with it that low. Anyways yeah you should get a new PSU if that is anywhere remotely close.

I would suggest an Antec, Enermax or OCZ 420 watt PSU.

They are top of the line. I would get the OCZ then the Antec then the Enermax. Also the OCZ has more features and is much more powerful thna the other 2. THe enermax has more features than the ANtec, and the Antec is there but it is rock solid and is one of the best out there.

Well, everything works fine as it is now, so what my question really is would be: Does the 9800PRO draw more power than the GeForce 4 Ti 4200? If not, I'm safe. Everything's stable here...
