quick question - I was wondering if there is a way to set my computer so it turns on at a specified time everyday. I am running windows xp home. If not, is there a way to turn on the computer remotely?

turn on... not that I am aware of because that could actually involve completing the electrical path physically. You can however, depending on your computer and router and firewall etc., tell your computer to wake up from sleep mode, sleep is almost as good as turned off, you can assign passwords etc. It also usess very little power depending on your mobo and case settings

I've seen some motherboards that have the option in the CMOS to turn on at a specific time. Never really worked for me before.

Check your CMOS to see if that feature is there.

It depends on how fancy your bios is. I was at work the other day, and out of the quiet, a computer I had worked on, suddenly powered itself up. I checked the bios, and it had a time to wake up. The guy was using it as an alarm clock.
