i'm thinking this is a bad motherboard, but here's what happens. Hit the button, fans spin for like 1 second, then shuts right down. have only the cpu and single ram stick in, no drives, nothing else is involved. i have a 20 pin power supply tester that, with a 20 to 24 pin adapter gives a green light, but the last 4 pins in the adapter are empty, so not sure if its a legit test.
i had taken a ram stick from this unit to see what it was, and when i reinstalled it it seems the motherboard was poorly supported and the board gave an audible "crack" when i pushed the stick back in. don't know if that was the issue, the unit had a failed hard drive originally, but it won't get past the first second of power up.
intel mobo socket 775 ddr2 generation e5xxx something dual core processor.
glad for any input before i start looking for a swap. thanks zz03
