Question Power Troubleshooter - Wake Source Unknown (cold boot) Win10 Pro

PC automatically started up this morning from a cold boot. Was walking by the computer room and seen it starting on it's own. Not sure what's going on. Looked in event manager and it said Wake Source: Unknown. My power config was in Ultimate Performance with Wake Timers disabled when it started. Networking doesn't wake on any packets. Fast Boot is enabled in Power options but not sure how that would cause an automatic cold boot. My monitor doesn't go into sleep mode on Ultimate Performance.

In CMD prompt admin I tried powercfg -waketimers and the result was "there are no active wake timers in the system"

Any other ways to trouble shoot this?

Thanks

In an admin CMD prompt, what does it tell you if you use powercfg -lastwake ? It should give you information about what caused the system to wake from sleep. If it references a USB hub, then it was a USB device attached to the machine. This can also happen if you have a pending Windows update that requires a reboot - it will wake the system from sleep, install the update, and then restart.

However, if it was just a one time occurrence, I wouldn't waste too much time researching it until you know it is a recurring issue.

Yeah that was the other cmd i tried and came to a dead end.

I can recall this happening maybe a few months or more, ago.

It's just getting suspicious.

Might be worth running a scan using Malwarebytes, if only to set you mind at ease.

If it comes back clean, you might also run CHKDSK to test the file system and a DISM restorehealth to repair any corrupted system files. If it continues to happen, worst case, you might even try doing a Windows repair install.

It could also be indicative of a failing piece of hardware.
