I looked at Anand's buyers guides and they were a bit outdated, woundering if there are any others out there.

I haven't been watching the new technology in the last 4 months or so, so im completely out of it when it comes to what's "in" and what's "not".

Basically I do alot of programming with C++ and VB, not advanced stuff, but getting into that soon hopefully. (Learning day by day)
I also need to run a small network off my main computer, a home network of about 5 computers. (Would like to use win2k server for this)
I also play new games from time to time, that come out. Heavily graphic ones.

So all in all I need a high performance computer upgrade.

This is what I have now: (and it's very unstable!!)
T-Bird 1Ghz 200fsb
ABIT KT7 Mobo(KT7 not KT7A)
256 Crucial Cas 2 Memory (2 Sticks)
Nvidia GeForce2 64MB
GT-XP Sound Card and GamePort
2x IBM 75GPX 15GB Drives(both about to go)
2x Maxtor Diamondmax 60 45GB Drives (Both pretty slow in performance)

Mainly looking to upgrade the CPU, motherboard, and memory, video card maybe but not needed...

I know this is a pretty damn good system for most people, but I would like to upgrade it a bit more, maybe to the newer processors and a new motherboard. All the pieces that are taken out will go two one of the secondary boxes. Price is an issue, but I can be flexible..

Thx for Any help

Well, you might want to wait til the end of the month to upgrade. By then, the KT266A and Palomino should be out (EpOx lists their KT266A mobo as out by the middle of this month, which is any day now). The Palomino should provide some extra boost in CPU power for those compile/server jobs, and the KT266A is expected to produce better memory bandwidth than any other AMD K7 chipset out there.

If I wanted to build/upgrade, I'd wait a until the second week of October to make my decision, simply because all that new technology is coming that offers a significant boost over the present.

I would go with the tried and true EPoX 8K7A. It is the best OC'ing board on the market, and one of the current top performers. If not, then wait for the nForce, as it seems to be the real deal in a couple months.
