Power surge!

Last nite we had a thunderstorm, and much to my surprise, the 2 systems in my den, an old windows 98 machine rebooted, and did it's scan disk warning thing, and went on ticking, on the other hand, my new Conroe machine rebooted, and had convulsions.

So I retired for the nite, and in the morning booted up my friends, and the 2 other XP machines on the network worked fine, but the new build, when trying to run certain applications was giving me run time errors, like the Asus probe2"abnormal program termination".

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same error!

I found out that the piece of junk ups's battery was just about dead, and didn't protect the system!

So I spent most of the day reinstalling everything, that I did just a few days ago.

So has anyone had this wonderful experience? What a day, but i'm up and running again and typing on this system. And btw, I temporarily swapped with the ups from the Dish sat receiver's ups 800va, so I wouldn't have another install, or much worse, a fried system.

So....What's the point of this thread pilgrim :p You going to start shooting DA instead of SA or are you making the leap to auto. ;)

I load test both UPS's batteries once every 90 days. You will find it in the provided software.
When crazy thunder storms roar overhead, sensitive electronics get unplugged.

Galvanized Yankee;

So what's the point? If you read my entire post, I asked a question, if anyone had a similar experience to this!

I've had many computers, and built a few, but never had one, where a OS got totally corrupted by a power surge, so bad that I had to reinstall it.

What's the reference to shooting have to do with my post?

SingleAction, as in a cock it everytime revolver. I own several.

No, I have not had lightning corrupt any OS or destroy any hardware.

One time only, lightning corrupted the VGA drivers of one machine. Drivers do reside on
the HDD.

Several months ago, a lot of people had fried rigs due to lightening strikes and power surges on Maui.
Costco and Walmart sold out therir stock of UPS Backups.
Lots still used regular surge suppressor figuring that's all they needed. Well a lot of burnt out systems and again there was a trenmendous buying spreee at Costco and Walamrt. Every $1000/under disappeared off the shelves. My computer business was unbelieveable.
Some may not agree but my Backups protected my rigs, even from the lightening hitting our street transformer. Get a good UPS like APC or Cyperpower. Its your choice.
