The other night a power surge took out my power supply. Once replaced I booted the computer up fine but then I got page fault errors constantly as I opened, closed and tried to work in various applications. I tried using scan disk but it would lock up also. I booted into DOS mode and tried using scandisk also. I eventually reformatted and reloaded Win 98 and still had the problem. I tried installing Win XP and it would not even install, saying it couldn't find specific files. I tried an old hd I had laying around and had the same problems.
It seems this is a hardware issue, could it be a memory problem or possibly the hd controller damaged from the surge?

It sounds like the power surge fried some of your memory. Get a new stick or a known good one from another computer and try with that.
