My brother turned on his PC and a radio at the same time, and got some weird sounds coming from both (they were both on the same outlet strip). Possibly a power surge of some sort?

Now the PC won't post. No beep, no video signal, nothing. He replaced the power supply, and now the fans and hard drive run, but still no beeps or video signal.

Old Pentium 1 class Asus motherboard P5T30-A4 and AMD 250 processor (I think).

What are the odds that he's fried the:

1. Video card,
2. Motherboard,
3. CPU,
4. Any combination of the above?

The motherboard manual does not even have a troubleshooting section.

I'm getting a error when I click "Support" on Asus's website: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons).

Help, please?

I would also say the motherboards toast.

It sounds like you already know the PSU is toast. And now it still wont post. So it must be the motherboard.

I would just hope that the surge wasn't any bigger and got to the video card....

Well hopefully your brudda will take this lesson to heart and buy a good surge protector for his next box. BTW you should be able to find replacement parts for a system that old at some local shops, FS/FT, fleabay, ect for next to nothing unless he is looking to build a new one.

Thanks for the replies, all.

I managed to find another "old" system, and tested the video card and CPU. Both are fine, so those who said "Motherboard" win extra points.

Yes, according to my bro, the PS was toast. When he originally tried to turn on the PC (after the power surge), NOTHING happened. No fans, no hard drive.
