Power Supply

So, after having several strange problems with my fathers computer we've come to the conclusion that its generic 480W psu. Well, before droppng the cash on a new Antec or similar quality power supply, I was wondering if you could give some advice on how big of one he needs.

He's running an AMD 2500+ on an AN35N ultra, 2 DVD roms, a total of 6 Hard drives, a Geforce 4 MX 440, and a pci IDE control card.

My thought was that a good 480W would be able to run all this, but I really dont know.

Thanks

What problems have you had?

In general, weird stuff. Random restarts being the biggest thing, but also some problems with the drives working from time to time

Power supplies are about quality. A good 350w will almost always be better than a generic 480w. If you have a good quality 480w in there, it could be the OS being corrupted, the ram gernerating errors, or even a flaky motherboard.
