Power Supply Voltage Alerts

Every 3-4 weeks, I get an alert on my system that my +3.3 V rail has gone outside of its recommended range. One second later, another message informs me that the +3.3V rail has returned to its recommended range. So far, when this happens there is no impact on system stability.

I never get any alerts about any of the other rails, and my +5V rail is at a constant 5.026.

Should I be concerned? Is this a sign of a bigger problem waiting to happen?

I have an Allied 300W PSU connected to a 700W Conext UPS (which is a remarked APC).

System is a P4 1.9 w/ HD, CDRW, NIC and Geforce2 GTS.

Thanks!!!

Unfortunately, I don't know exactly how much the +3.3V rail deviated, but the Intel Active Monitor alarm triggering threshholds are +2.3V for the low end and +4.3 for the high end on the +3.3V rail. Normally, the value is stable at 3.266.

I'll give motherboard monitor a try as well.

Thanks again,

Hey jhigh,

That Allied or DEER PS is the most defective PS I see in my shop. I am not exagerating when I say they are garbage and a realistic useful life for them is about 9 - 18 months max. The problems in the ones I see is from leaking capacitors. Pretty soon you'll have a "burnt" smell and when you open up that puppy you'll see the damage done by the garbage components they use in their PS.

Move up to a 350watt minimum and look at Enermax, Antec and Sparkle. The latter is made by Fotron/Source Group and their PS model numbers begin with FSPxxx-xx. Focus on the model number and not the brand and you can find some really great PS's. However, they do produce more noise than Enermax or Antec which are step down in overall quality but are quieter.

Good luck!
