Power supply too large for case

I decided to upgrade the old computer; unfortunately, the power supply that I chose (PC Power & Cooling S75QB) is too long to fit in my case. I didn't realize that the S75QB was longer than my Turbo-Cool 510-SLI which just barely fits in the case.

I would stick with the Turbo-Cool 510-SLI, as I think it is more than enough to power my system (280GTX, Core 2 Quad, 6 HDDs); however, it is missing the 8-pin PCI-e connector required for the 280GTX as well as the 12V (8-pin) connector required for the Core 2 Quad. As far as I know, I need both of those connectors, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Can anyone recommend a power supply that isn't as long but still has many of the same features and is of a similar quality as the S75QB?

As a reference, the S75QB is 7.1 inches in length and the Turbo-Cool 510-SLI is only 5.5 inches.

Thanks!

You old PSu will not support the new system. It can't supply enough power never mind its lack of appropriat connectors. I suggest you stay with the PP P&C unit you have and get a better case. Power requierments of a system like that will demand alot of power which means the need for a large PSU like the PC P&C you have.

I disagree. The 510-SLI has will output 510 watts continuously with a peak around 650 watts. That is more than enough to power my system except maybe under the most extreme loads. I doubt you will find many non-SLI systems that require more than 500 watts of continuous power. Of course, that doesn't change the connector issue.

The problem with getting a new case is that my current case is a custom Lian-Li case designed with a built-in reservoir and radiator. I can't just take that stuff out and switch cases. I would also prefer not to take a $300 loss on my water cooling setup.

There must be some decent 650 watt (continuous) PSUs out there that aren't more than 5.5 or so inches long.

The PC P&C Silencer is about 7 inches long isn't it? Do you really need the PSU to be under 5.5 Inches? There are alot out there at about 6 inches.

According to this the Enermax ModU82+ 625 is 86MM tall(3.38 inches) x 150MM wide(5.9inches) by 140mm deep (5.5 inches)

If you can squeeze in a 6.5" deep PSU, you'll have a lot of choices.

I think you are right. While at work, I did some research and 5.9 and 6.5 inch power supplies seem to be fairly common. I will be home shortly and will measure the case. Going by memory, I think the 6.5 might be pushing it :(

there are plenty of good options at 5.9 inches though

Alright. I measured my case, and there is exactly 6.5 inches of distance between the two walls that house the power supply (it's a V-series Lian Li, so unlike most cases where the power supply simply spills out into the case, the power supply is separated into its own section). I probably need at least half of an inch of space at the back of the PSU to route the cables, especially if the PSU isn't modular. I think that means anything over 5.9 inches is not going to work.

I've always used PC P&C because I know they make quality PSUs, but since they don't make any that meet my space requirements, I'll have to go with another manufacturer. Anyone have any recommendations in the 5.9 inch range? There's a ton of them.

One of the PSUs that caught my eye is the Cooler Master Silent Pro M700. I don't need a silent PSU, but it seems to be of a high quality, and the modular cables might be beneficial considering my space requirements. Any thoughts?
