yeah so i did a real dumb thing and shipped out my 24 to 20 pin converter that goes to my vantec stealth 470 when i sold me motherboard, and i was wondering if it is a absolute must in powering the new motherboard i'm getting. I'm getting a Asus P4G8X Deluxe, and since it has the atx 12 volt 4 pin connector and the asus ez plug i was wondering if i can use only that until my adapter comes back from the guy i shipped to.

I don't think you'll be able to plug the Vantec's 24-pin cable into your board at all without the adapter; I don't know the exact shape of the 24-pin connector, but it may not line up properly to latch onto the board's socket, or there may not be space nearby for the unused 4 pins, or they may touch something and allow a current from those pins directly to a component on the board.

If it does fit safely, then you can use that (the adapter just runs the wires from one size connector to the other, and leaves the unused 4 pins disconnected) and you'd HAVE to use either the ATX12V 4-pin block, or the Asus EZ Plug connector, because a P4 board won't boot without that plugged in. Even with the adaptor, you've got to use the 4-pin or EZPlug connectors.
