In the next month or so, I am going ot assemble a new C2D system and really would like some informed suggestions on a good and appropriately powered ps.

My intended setup:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe

C2D E6600 (and this may be upgraded after the quad cores come out)

Corsair XMS 2 x 1GB

Seagate 7200.10 320GB hard drive (am toying with the idea of a pair of 150GB Raptors, though)

ATI X1950XTX and ATI X1950 Crossfire video cards

The obligatory DVD-RW and a DVD-ROM optical drives

I guess the question is how much power will I really need to safely power the above and what brands, such as Corsair, Silverstone, Seasonic, etc.

Thanks!!

The Enermax Noisetaker is a great PSU. I own one (600w) and have never had any problems with it. It fits perfectly in my P180 too. I know people also recommend the Seasonic 600w PSU or Enermax Liberty, Fortron PSUs also.
JUST DON'T DO ANTEC PSUs!

IMO, My recommendations are Seasonic S-12 600W and Enermax Liberty 620W. Fortron comes in third.

Enhance ENS-0560G
Corsair CMPSU-520HX
Seasonic S12 Energy+ SS-550HT

I agree. The Corsair having modular cables if the OP is looking for that.

The Trio and NeoHE are decent PSUs, not much wrong with them. Got anything to backup this comment?

- spcr Antec NeoHE psu "users poll"
- SPCR Antec Neo HE 430 Review <-- note the big yellow box at the bottom of page5 which links to the poll.

- Antec 480w Neo PSU with Fuhjyyu caps

I can't tell from the SPCR review photos, but does anyone know what caps the NeoHE series uses? I've read that the NeoHE line is built by Seasonic for Antec, but I'm not sure. If you have a NeoHE, crack her open and take some up close pictures of the caps :D

Edit: found some pics & info on the NeoHE 550 from this review at hardwaresecrets.com. Looks like nippon/chemi-con's and OST caps.

Thanks for the input, guys. A bit more info..........modular would be great, if a good one can be found. My budget for a ps is $200 or less......

I did read Jonny Guru's review of the Corsair 620W ps........seemed nice and may be the one I'm centering on, but do like the suggestions for alternatives.

I've understood Seasonic makes very good power supplies, Enermax is a decent alternative, PCP&C is just too bloody expensive considering the value you get......not bashing the PCP&C ps, but it seems to me there are just others that perform as well for substantially less.

All CWT Antecs have Fuhjyyu caps, usually with a lifetime of one or two years due to their heat issues. The CWT Antecs include the Truepowers I & II, Smartpower, and NeoPower. The NeoHE and Trio (Truepower 3) are by Seasonic, but I can assure you that they arn't of Seasonic quality. Not ALL Antec PSUs are bad, just the CWT made Antecs arn't recommended. HEC Antecs on the other hand.... :D

herbiehancock, the Corsair HX520W can provide enough power for you. It is modular and nearly a rebadged M12 at a lower cost. Not to mension monster 12V rails! 480 @ 12V for HX520W, 600W @ 12V for HX620W. I wouldn't recommend using other 500W PSUs for your system because they generally don't have as large 12V rails as the HX520W from Corsair/Seasonic. If your looking for a lower cost solution then the 550W Antec NeoHE is good.

dB: I was merely throwing some information into the always-interesting 'antec is bad' argument. The good news is that the NeoHE's don't have fuhjyyu's, but I'm not certain about ost's quality.

Regardless, I would recommend a Seasonic S12-600, Enermax Liberty 620, Corsair HX620, or possibly the Fortron FSP550 for the OP's crossfire system.
